LOWER and UPPER CLINIC DIVISION
 RULES/RECOMMENDATIONS


Length of play

1. All games shall consist of five(5) eight(8) minute RUNNING quarters.
2. The clinic division will not keep score.

Timeouts and Breaks of play

1. Clinic does not have timeouts unless for an injury
2. 1 minute breaks in between quarters.
3. The primary goal of the clinic level is learning. Play may be delayed briefly for a coach to explain a foul that was called or to instruct a player or players on proper basketball rules.
4. Players that have been injured and are bleeding must be removed from the court immediately. Players can not return until all bleeding is stopped.

Team Rosters and play requirements/restrictions

1. Clinic levels shall have 10 players on their roster.
2. All players shall play a minimum of 2 total quarters of the 5 quarters.
3. It is recommended that players sit no more than 1 quarter at a time. (Plays every other quarter)

Fouls

1. Coaches will be required to have a whistle and will be in charge of controlling the game and calling appropriate fouls for this level.
2. Blatant fouls and rough play weather intentional or not will be called by the coaches and the ball given to the team that was fouled.
3. Jump balls will be called quickly and given to the team that had possession of the ball initially.
4. NO illegal “moving” screens should be allowed.

Defense, traps, pressing

1. Clinic defense shall consist of a 2/3 ZONE defense. The players must stay in their “Zone” with no trapping or double teaming allowed unless the ball is inside the key.  
2. Zone defense will set up in the interior of the key (Upper Clinic-with one foot inside the key).
    For Upper Clinic- If the coaches wish to expand the zone defense to allow players to guard “outside” of the key but still within their zone, the coaches can meet midway during the season to make this change with the commissioner.
3. No “man to man” defense.
4. No full or half court press.




Equipment.

1. Participants shall wear the uniform provided be MYBL
2. MYBL shall provide all scoring and timing equipment.
2. MYBL shall provide the game balls for each game.
 (Clinic= junior size)
3. The clinic shall use portable goals set at a height of eight(8) feet
4. Players personal equipment worn during the game (shoes, jewelry, etc.) is subject to Board member on duty’s approval. This is done to insure the safety of all players, fans, officials involved during the game.

Parents

1. Parents shall be held to a code of behavior that includes only positive cheering for all players and no instruction from the side line. It is the coach’s responsibility to “Coach” during the game.
2. Each coach is strongly suggested to have an “assistant” on the bench so that the coach can concentrate on instructing his players and making substitutions while the assistant maintains order with the children on the bench and helps with water/bathroom breaks.
